How we work

 

The truth is, we don’t mind at which stage we are engaged but we do prefer a client led approach, we like to understand what a client is trying to achieve with their project and let their ‘why’ develop our ‘how’ in achieving the perfect end result.

Whether it’s a home or an investment property, perhaps a buy-to-let, a holiday let or commercial opportunity, JWS is here to help deliver your vision.

Stages of work

Every project is unique but typical stages of work might follow a similar approach:

Identify the brief and offer an initial cost plan

Every customer wants to know what their plans (or concept) could cost, regardless of budget value for money is always key. Engaging with an experienced building firm such as JWS who can reliably inform, at even an early stage, the actual costs can be invaluable.

 The pre-construction stage

Depending on the scheme, and at which stage JWS are engaged, there is sometimes still a great deal of work to do before the diggers can roll in. We can refer and/or oversee planning, architectural, survey, environmental and structural engineering requirements. This stage can be the most frustrating and time-consuming phase of the whole project and many clients appreciate the support JWS offer.

Until contract is signed there is never any obligation to proceed to the construction stage.

Construction

As you’d expect from an established and reputable main contractor, we manage and support the client and/or their agents in the execution of a contract. We pride ourselves on delivering to schedule and on budget. Where there is design or cost variation, we communicate it and minimise the impact financially and to the programme.

Handover & Aftercare

Just because the certification is complete, and the keys are handed over, we don’t consider our job done. JWS will be on hand well beyond any contractually obligated defects period, to help if there are any issues. For example we're always happy to help with small follow on jobs, to get a house just right.

We like to understand what it is you really want as the client.

Communication is key for JWS, working with clients who may be overseas or not yet local to the area within which we operate. Overseen by Will and with a dedicated manager for each and every project, we are easily reachable and in constant communication with our clients.

Being a local company allows us to be on hand in person, which we feel is an important part of getting to know the client and the client getting to know us. This also enables us to put prospective clients in touch with past clients in the immediate area, or to visit past projects if relevant.
